Using a Free Domain

Static.app automatically provides a free domain option, perfect for quick launches or if you don't yet have a custom domain.

  1. Your site will initially be assigned a random default name (e.g., brave-whale.static.domains ).
  2. In the Domain Name field, you have the option to generate a new random subdomain or input your own custom name (e.g., my-cool-site.static.domains ). This gives you a more memorable and personalized free address.
  3. After customizing, click Save Changes. Your free domain will update instantly.

Connecting Your Custom Domain

For a professional online presence, you can connect a domain you already own (e.g., yourbusiness.com ).

  1. In the Custom Domain section, type your full domain name (e.g., www.yourbusiness.com or yourbusiness.com ).
  2. Click the Test domain button.
  3. If your domain is not yet set up, Static.app will display the necessary DNS records you need to add at your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare). You'll see the message: "Domain is not set... yet".
  4. You need to ensure your domain has these DNS records:
  5. After adding the DNS records at your registrar, return to Static.app and click the Test domain button again.
    • DNS propagation (the time it takes for changes to update globally) can take up to 5 minutes, and sometimes a few hours. Once ready, you'll receive a confirmation that everything is in working order, and your website will be online with your new custom domain and an automatic free SSL certificate.

Note:

You can reconnect your custom domain as many times as you want if needed. However, to avoid potential technical problems or propagation issues, please avoid reconnecting your custom domain more than 5 times within a week.
