Configuring Static.app DNS records on Google Domains
When opting to establish your website's online presence, the domain name is likely to be the first to prioritize, which will need to point to your website hosting. If you purchased a domain from the Google Domains registrar and you wish to configure your Static.app website DNS record, you will need to add an A record and TXT record to your domain under your Google Domains account's dashboard in order to use your own your domain with Static.app.
The procedure is quite simple; the following tutorial will guide you through the configuration process within your Google Domains interface.
Adding an A record
Log in to your Google Domains account.
Navigate to My domains page. Alternatively, you can also click on the My domains link in the left menu panel.
On the domain’s list, click on the Manage link next to the domain name you want to work with.
In the left menu panel, click on the DNS link.
Under the Resource Records section, click on the Custom records accordion box.
Note: At the top of the page, make sure the Google Domains tab is set to "Google Domains (Active)."
To add the Static.app A record to your Namecheap account, select A Record from the drop-down menu for Type, and do the following:
In the Host name field, leave it blank to point your root domain to the IP address provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings page.
- In the Value field, copy and paste your IP address provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings
- For the TTL drop-down, select 600 (10 minutes).
- Once finished, review the form and click on the Save
Note: By default, Static.app will provide an A-record that you need to add to your Google Domains account under the Domains Settings page. This can be seen by clicking on the three-dot icons in the lower corner of the website project you are working on, then clicking on the Domains link.
To add the Static.app TXT record, click the Create new record button. Next, select TXT Record from the drop-down menu for Type and do the following:
- In the Host name field, leave it blank to point your root domain to the custom domain provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings page.
- In the Value field, copy and paste the TXT record provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings page.
- For the TTL drop-down, select 600 (10 minutes).
- Once finished, review the form and click on the Check button.
Note: If you wish to add www support to your custom domain and make it work with the "www" substring on the URL (e.g www.yourdomain.com), you will need to add an A record and enter www on the Host name field, and then copy and paste your IP address on the Data field provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings page. For the TTL drop-down, select 600 (10 minutes).
It can take up to 48 hours to propagate across the internet for changes to resource records. That implies that when various internet users try to access or utilize your site during that time, they may obtain different results. This delay is since most devices and browsers retain or cache information about your website for efficiency. They won't have to seek up all of the resource records' details every time the website is accessed this way.
Adding TXT (Text) record
Log in to your Google Domains account.
Click on the My domains link in the left menu panel or navigate to My domains page.
Click on the DNS link in the left menu panel.
Under Resource records section, click Custom records accordion box.
On the domain’s list, click on the Manage link next to the domain name you want to work with.
Static.app will provide the TXT record that you need to add to your Google Domains account under the Domains Settings page. This can be seen by clicking on the three-dot icons in the lower corner of the website project you are working on, then clicking on the Domains link.
To add the Static.app TXT record, select TXT Record from the drop-down menu for Type and do the following:
- In the Host field, enter @ sign to point your root domain to the custom domain provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings page.
- In the Value field, copy and paste the custom domain provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings page.
- For the TTL drop-down, select 600 (10 minutes.
- Once finished, review the form and click on the Save button.
At this time, the Static.app A record and TXT record were successfully added. The DNS updates may take 24-48 hours to propagate across the entire internet. To check on the status of your custom domain configuration with Static.app, go to your Domains Settings page on the project you are working on and click on the Test Domain button.
Static.app will then process the DNS configuration for your custom domain.
When you're done, you'll see that the Domain [your domain] is ready! success message under the Custom Domain section. To test your Static.app website, click the "Save Changes" button and go to your custom domain URL in your browser to see your website live.
