Configuring Static.app DNS records on Cloudflare

When opting to establish your website's online presence, the domain name is likely to be the first thing to prioritize, which will need to point to your website hosting. If you purchased a domain from the Cloudflare registrar and you wish to configure your Static.app website DNS record, you will need to add an A record and TXT record to your domain under your Cloudflare account’s dashboard in order to use your own domain with Static.app.

The procedure is quite simple; the following tutorial will guide you through the configuration process within your Cloudflare interface.

Adding an A record

Log in to your Cloudflare Account Dashboard.

On your Cloudflare Account Dashboard, click on the domain you wish to work on.

Click on the DNS link on the left side menu bar.

Click on the + Add Record button located next to the Advanced button.

By default, Static.app will provide an A-record that you need to add to your Namecheap account under the Domains Settings page. This can be seen by clicking on the three-dot icons in the lower corner of the website project you are working on, then clicking on the Domains link.

To add the Static.app A record to your Cloudflare account, on the DNS record form, select A (which stands for A Record) from the drop-down menu for Type, and do the following:

  • In the Name field, enter @ sign to point your root domain to the IP address provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings page.
  • In the IPv4 address field, copy and paste your IP address provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings
  • Once finished, review the form and click on the Save button

Note: If you wish to add www support to your custom domain and make it work with the "www" substring on the URL (e.g www.yourdomain.com), you will need to add an A record and enter www on the Name field, and then copy and paste your IP address on the IPv4 address field provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings page.

If the DNS record is correctly propagated, you may need to wait at least 30 minutes to an hour for the changes to take effect. Make sure that there are no conflicting records configured for the same host and remove them if there are any.

Adding TXT (Text) record

Log in to your Cloudflare Account Dashboard.

On your Cloudflare Account Dashboard, click on the domain you wish to work on.

Click on the DNS link on the left side menu bar.

Click on the + Add Record button located next to the Advanced button.

Static.app will provide the TXT record you need to add to your Cloudflare account under the Domains Settings page. This can be seen by clicking on the three-dot icons in the lower corner of the website project you are working on, then clicking on the Domains link.

To add the Static.app TXT record to your Domain account, on the pop-up window, select TXT (which stands for TXT Record) from the drop-down menu for Type, and do the following:

  • In the Name field, enter @ sign to point your root domain to the IP address provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings page.
  • In the Content field, copy and paste your TXT Record provided by Static.app on the Domains Settings
  • For the TTL drop-down, select Auto.
  • Once finished, review the form and click on the Save

The Static.app A record and TXT record have now been successfully added. It would take at least 30 minutes to an hour for the DNS changes to take effect or propagate. To check the status of your custom domain configuration with Static.app, navigate to the Domains Settings page for the project you're working on and click the Test Domain button.

Static.app will then process the DNS configuration for your custom domain.

Once successful, you will see the “Domain [your domain] is ready!” success message under the Custom Domain section. Click “Save Changes” button and visit your custom domain URL on your browser to check your Static.app website live.
