Create Short Links

A short link is a compact URL on stc.ac  that forwards visitors to your website, one of its pages, or a single file on it. Instead of sharing a long path like https://my-portfolio.static.domains/case-studies/2026/acme-rebrand-final.pdf , you share https://stc.ac/k3Qp7d .

Short links are useful when a URL has to fit somewhere tight: a printed flyer, a QR code, a bio field, a chat message, a slide. They also tell you how many people actually clicked.

Where to find them

Open a website in your dashboard and go to the Links tab. Everything about short links lives on that one screen: the list of links, the button to create a new one, and the click stats for each.

Two shortcuts exist elsewhere, both of which open the create form with the destination already filled in:

  • On the Files screen, open the menu next to any file and choose "Create Short Link..."
  • On a page's settings, use the "Create short link" action next to the page

Click Create Link and pick a destination:

  • Entire website. The link opens your website's homepage.
  • A single page. The link opens one specific page of the website.
  • Select a file. The link opens one file, for example a PDF, an image, or a download. HTML pages are not listed here because they are pages, not files: use "A single page" for those.

Then set two optional things:

  • Name. A private label so you can tell links apart in the list. Only you and your workspace see it, visitors never do.
  • Expiration. Choose Never expires, 1 Hour, 3 Hours, 1 Day, 1 Week, 1 Month, or a custom date and time. After that moment the link stops forwarding and shows an expired page instead.

Save, and the link is live immediately. The code itself is generated for you: six characters of letters and digits, picked at random. A code is never handed out twice, even after you delete the link that used it.

Seeing how a link performs

Click any link in the list to open it. You will see the short URL, its destination, the date it was created, the total number of clicks, and a chart of clicks over the last 30 days.

Editing and deleting

You can change a link's name, its destination, and its expiry at any time from the edit screen. The code stays the same, so anything already printed or shared keeps working and simply points somewhere new.

Deleting a link takes it out of service right away. Anyone who follows it afterwards gets a not-found page.

Good to know

  • The destination is resolved when the link is clicked, not when it is created. That means renaming a page, or moving your website onto a custom domain, does not break existing short links. They follow the page.
  • If you delete the page or file a link points to, the link stops working. Point it somewhere else, or delete it.
  • Short links do not pass through your visitors' referrer or your own analytics setup. They record the click on our side, then forward the visitor to your website, so your website's own analytics still see the visit as normal.
  • There is a limit of 500 short links per website. Delete ones you no longer need to free up room.

Plans and permissions

Creating and editing short links is a paid-plan feature, and the plan is read from the workspace the website belongs to.

If a plan lapses, links that already exist keep redirecting and keep counting clicks. You can still see the list, open the stats, and delete links. You just cannot create new ones or reconfigure existing ones until the plan is active again.

In a workspace, access follows the member's permissions: viewing links, creating them, editing them, and deleting them are separate rights, so you can let a teammate create links without letting them delete anyone else's.
